Growth in Christ Through Gospel Learning and Gospel Community

Christian discipleship happens in learning and community spaces. These spaces are not mutually exclusive. Where we learn together, we do so in community. Where we fellowship together, we learn together. But it is also beneficial to structure our spaces so that they are intentionally, primarily geared to one purpose, either discipleship through learning within community or discipleship through communal fellowship with an element of learning. That's what we aim to do with our Christian education or Sunday schools and our Small Groups. We dedicate our Sunday schools as learning spaces and our Small Groups as fellowship in community spaces. In this way, our discipleship through learning and community complement rather than compete.

Growth in Christ through Gospel Learning: Discipleship happens in learning spaces. This is the space dedicated to growing in the knowledge of God and our faith. At DGCC, the scope of our Christian education from children to adult focuses on Bible, Doctrine, and Spiritual Formation, categories that we call God's Story for the Saints (Bible), The Beliefs of the Saints (Doctrine), and The Practices of the Saints (Spiritual Formation/Practical Theology). All of our curriculum, whether acquired or produced in house will fall within one or more of these spheres and place a premium on gospel centeredness. While this scope spans across age groups from children to adult, we aim to appropriately scale these spheres of education for age and maturity. Our Sunday school semesters and times are listed above.

Growth in Christ through Gospel Community: Small Groups are a valuable opportunity for discipleship and support - especially during this time of social distancing. For more information on getting connected to a small group, contact Daniel Camenisch (daniel@camenisch.net) or fill out the DGCC contact form. Some groups are now meeting in person (Mallard Creek on Tuesday evenings, Harrisburg on Wednesday evenings), while others are continuing to meet via Zoom (Sunday evenings and Monday evenings).

Covid Guidelines (revised March 2, 2022). It now looks like Covid will be with us always in one form or another. While we will have no requirements for participation in our services going forward, we encourage all to continue to live out Philippians 2:3 ("In humility count others more significant than yourselves") by abiding by these guidelines for our indoor services:

  1. Should you have any symptoms consistent with Covid, consider staying home, social distancing, avoiding physical contact, and/or masking while indoors at our services. We thank you for using biblical wisdom in making these decisions.
  2. We will restrict seating to every other row in the section farthest to the left facing the stage for those wishing to maintain social distance during the service. Most Sundays, we will also open the nearby door to increase ventilation. If others sit in that section masked, we encourage you to wear masks also, or to consider moving to a different section.
  3. Be aware that those who are masked may prefer to avoid handshakes and hugs. Please be sensitive to this.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Should Charlotte experience a wave of infections from a future variant, we will consider revising these guidelines.
